Montbellevue
Hi there!
In this thread I wanna show you how I planned Montbellevue city's development.
First of all, as you can see, is a french city, so the town planning is very different from other cities in the world. There is an old town (vieille ville) as city center. This is the 'start' of the settlement. Then the city will grow up in any natural direction (conditioned by the river) and surrounding the old town. This is due to ancient cities used to have walls to protect inhabitants from attacks.
This kind of cities normally hava a main square, a main street and a main church/cathedral. In this case we can see a golden mile, full of shopping malls and offices; on one extreme of the street is the main square, sorrounded by Town Hall, a palace, a monument for the heroes in the middle of the square and ancient buildings. On the other extreme of the street there is an arch: it was the gate of the city and part of the disappeared walls, but now it's just a monument.

Re: Montbellevue
Montbellevue follows its way expanding outside walls and developing new neighborhoods(arrondissement) composed by elegant buildings for the bourgeoisie.
Those new High Class neighbors demand security as hospitals, police dep. or fire station, as well as parks, theaters or management of administrations.
As a result we have this huge expansion. Now the north of the city is closed by the biggest park of the city (this will represent a big challenge for the urban plan).
The south area is equipped with a theater, a cathedral, a château, the courthouse and the parliament.

Re: Montbellevue
The end of XIX century and the beginning of XX century was a convulsing period full of revolutions and wars, all around the world, but specially in Europe and North America, where the arrival of the Train system and industrialization changed completely the skyline of the cities.
On one hand, the train shortened distances between Montbellevue and towns. But also solved logistic challenges to transport raw materials and manufactures. That was the kingpin to proceed to an industrial revolution.
This carried an economic welfare: industry brought thousands of jobs, so the city increased exponentially its population. This demographic impact was supported by several migration movements which created ghettos.
On the other hand, the tertiary sector took a relevance specially in financial services as banks, stock exchange or international trade. As downtowns where occupied by old town and historical center, most of financial districts in Europe are located in outskirts, as occurs in Montbellevue.
The more the city grew, the more organization in the distribution and urbanism required. Urban transport played an important role in the development of the city: highways, beltways, bus lines, or underground draw and conditioned the shape of Montbellevue. Focusing the encirclement of the city, it was designed by surrounding outskirts and creating new accesses to the center regarding to the possibilities of future expansions.

Re: Montbellevue
very nice! just a quick info, If you took inspiration from paris, in Paris there is no ghetto there is just lower density building with more crime. Every typical French citys has them and it's called "Banlieue" In Paris the Banlieue is Saint Denis.MONTEMARINO wrote: ↑01 Mar 2019, 18:53The end of XIX century and the beginning of XX century was a convulsing period full of revolutions and wars, all around the world, but specially in Europe and North America, where the arrival of the Train system and industrialization changed completely the skyline of the cities.

Re: Montbellevue
Hi @Mr. French
I know, if you check the Screenshot Gallery there are some pics from Montbellevue called 'Banlieue'. I use the word Ghetto so everybody understand what I mean.
Also, please don't quote the whole message, it takes too much space in the thread.
Regards.
P.S. is not inspired in Paris, but in a general composition of a french city as Bordeaux, Lyon or Toulouse

Re: Montbellevue
This is getting bigger!
At least we reach our days and Montbellevue has become in a common french city. The residential expansion is huge and the city is surrounded by mid-class residential neighborhoods. New facilities have been built on the outskirts and Montbellevue has been consolidated as one of the economic engines of the country.
Now the city has the capacity to attract new companys, festivals, events, congresses, conferences or sport events.
These are new areas on the city:
Université de Montbellevue
Ville Sportive Zinedine Zidane Centre Commercial Les Passages Cimetière Léon Gambetta Prison d'Etat
