Golden Gate Challenge

#1

Post by MONTEMARINO »

Hi everybody!

I am working on a Golden Gate plugin and I have made the graphics.

I need big help with the plugin itself: i think it could work as road deco for bridges, maybe the picture could be divided in 1x1 or 2x2 tiles and make a linetool that configures the bridge in the proper sequence.

Does anyone have an idea for this?

Could you iluminate us @Lobby ?

I leave here the pictures for anyone who wants to help!

I would model it as 1x1 sized buildings around the road and use fun to select the appropriate part of the bridge. That would mean a lot of rotation aware buildings. However, it's possible.

Yes, the road used in the sample is the country road. The bridge is so huge that it looks small

Is a good start @_Rock Fort_.

As you can see, the four support pillars can be resized to fit the perfect height for the bridge.

On one hand, is not necessary to make 1x1 when you can make 4x4 for example. Remember that this is a plugin which doesn't need land, so you have a lot of space on the water for biger tiles. This way you will need to do only 10 parts for each side of the bridge.

On the other hand, if you look carefully, the bridge is a perfect symmetry, so you only have to work on the central section as a pattern, except both ends on each side of the river, this is the half of work [(10 tiles - 2 ending tiles)/ 2 central sections] = 4
So, 4 tiles (4x4) + 2 ending tiles) x 2 sides of the bridge =
12 tiles (4x4) for each rotation aware, 24 in total.

I'm hoping to get this soon, but the tower is too large and the bridge road is too low. The actual bridge towers are 227m tall and the bridge road at 67m - maybe we should do it to that scale.

Or maybe not. 8-)

It's going to take too much texture space that way.

You're right. But if we're doing the scale as in the picture, the towers and the concrete fixture have to be shrunk.

.
Ok. Now the bridge is complete.

I cut the number of the tiles needed to the half, so is possible to make a bridge as long as you want repeting the same sequence, as you can see on the picture.
There are just 6 middle sections and 2 extremes.

The problem is still the texture space... rotation aware is needed, otherwise it would look too strange when you rotate the city view.

Does anyone know any solution for this?

Add this to the official game and the plugin space problem is solved! 😂😂

But the game's texture gonna be full!

SERIOUSLY THOUGH
maybe you can turn the cables in to animations and stack them instead?
And if you everything is Animation, you'll only 2 versions of rotation(NE-SW & NW-SE), because you can align the picture to different part of the 4x4 base instead (align at top & align at bottom)...

Is this too confusing??😂😂😂

Hahahaha , I understand.

The problem is that I have no idea how to do that, my strength is the drawing, not the encoding...

I fear that this project will be abandoned if I don't find more help soon... and it's a pity...

P.S. Although there are only two versions for the rotation, I think that four frames are needed anyway
