Massive icons

Something that has always been a bit bothersome to me... The big sad faces, lightning bolts, and water drops over buildings. So let's say I want to put houses near a wind farm. Now I know the people won't like it, but tough crap, that's what I want it to look like. But I can't do that - because those huge icons make my city look terrible. I want some notification that the building need something... But those icons, they are just too much.
